ST. JOSEPH The developers of a proposed CVS pharmacy in St. Joseph are trying a different approach to get the city to approve plans to build a new store at the site of the Florin Funeral Home.
The project has faced a lot of backlash from neighbors, but The Herald Palladium reports that the developers now plan to get rezoning approval for a "planned unit development." The distinction means they'll have to prove how they'll benefit the community.
The new request has a smaller parking lot, and the developers gave up on adding a Myrtle Avenue entrance to the property. They'll also build walls, fences and put in landscaping around the store to help screen the lights and noise for neighbors. They'll also build new water drainage and filtration systems.
The developers plan to invest $5 million in construction, creating work and tax revenue for the city.
