Notre Dame’s loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship on Monday night is still being felt by South Bend’s mayor.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Tuscaloosa’s Mayor Walt Maddox entered into some of the BCS hype and bet on the outcome of the national title game. But after Notre Dame’s loss, Mayor Buttigieg is settling the wager.
“Mayor Walt sent me a gracious note after the game and relayed his respect for Notre Dame and the South Bend community,” said Buttigieg in a press release. Now Buttigieg will send boxes of South Bend Chocolate Company chocolates and Claeys Chocolate Charlie to the Tuscaloosa mayor.
As part of the wager the two mayors agreed to donate $1000 of their own money to the charity of the winning side’s choice. Mayor Buttigieg will send the check to the City of Tuscaloosa Storm Recovery Fund.
