South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg released a statement Monday in regards to a possible government shutdown. He released the statement after participating in a phone call with White House officials
“I am concerned about the immediate impact that a shutdown would have on the local economy. A shutdown would delay pay, benefits, and services for many who live here, and hold up resources that local organizations count on.
It looks like Washington is preparing to let us down again, but it’s not too late to avoid a shutdown that would hurt South Bend. Indications are that if Speaker Boehner brings a clean bill to the floor of the House, it would pass and put an end to this drama.
However, even if Congress fails tonight, the City government will continue working for our residents no matter what.”
