ELKHART A coalition of Elkhart businesses are threatening to sue the city over the ongoing sewer dispute.
The Elkhart Truth reports that a spokesman for the group told Mayor Dick Moore that plans for a lawsuit are progressing. The coalition is made up of companies outside of the city.
Currently, Moore is preparing what will now be the fourth compromise proposal aimed at ending the more than nine-month debate. He'll present details of his plan to council members at their September 23rd meeting.
The dispute centers on how commercial customers outside the city limits should be charged for sewer service.
The mayor has stuck with a formula that relies on assessed property value to calculate monthly charges, while republicans want to switch to a surcharge based on usage.
