Just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, fire crews were called to a blaze at “Joe’s Discount” in the 3600 block of East Mishawaka Ave., on South Bend's far southeast side.
According to a media release, more than ten fire engines, aerials and support vehicles found light smoke drifting from the back of the masonry-framed building when they arrived.
Firefighters from South Bend engine company nine entered the structure and fought a small interior fire near the back doorway. Damage to the $200,000 building is around $500.
No one was injured as the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
