Benton Harbor Benton Harbor is facing a lawsuit, from a building inspector who says the city owes him money.

Barney Martlew says he’s due more than $76,000, according to our reporting partners at WSJM. It all stems from a contract that was terminated by former Benton Harbor emergency manager Joseph Harris. According to Martlaw, Harris terminated the contract in 2011, but never paid for work that was still in progress at the time.

The building inspector says he tried to call Harris, but now Martlew and his business partner are suing the city in Berrien County Circuit Court. Benton Harbor has 42 days from the May 1 filing, to file an appeal, if desired.
