An Elkhart woman was arrested after she tried to swim away from police during a meth bust, according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

Edith Allbaugh, 31, was pulled over by Bristol Police near downtown on Thursday afternoon.

She admitted to them that she had needles on her and a mobile meth lab in her car.

When police tried to arrest Allbaugh, she took off and jumped over a 20-foot embankment into the St. Joseph River.

Allbaugh floated down the river and stopped on an island near Division Street.

Two passersby in a boat helped police apprehend her.

She was checked out at Elkhart General Hospital, then booked into the Elkhart County Jail on meth charges and a charge of driving with a suspended license.
