Braxston's parents talk about son's final home game

This time next year Rick and Kim Cave will be save about $125 on their grocery bill every home weekend.

After all, the parents of Notre Dame football center Braxston Cave won't have to make a home cooked meal each Thursday night for the team's entire offensive line.

Then again, Rick says, maybe they will. This Notre Dame family has loved every step of their son's journey under the Golden Dome and they can't believe Saturday will mark the final team Braxston runs out of the Notre Dame tunnel.

After five years at Notre Dame, the Penn High grad will play his final home game Saturday against Wake Forest.

"It's truly was a dream since he was a small kid," Braxston's dad Rick said Monday night from the family's home in Granger. "To see it all unfold and to actually live it, can't be prouder--so proud."

"I get teary eyed just thinking about it," Braxston's mom Kim says as she wipes back a tear. "To have a diploma from Notre Dame and to have a football career that he's loved to do all his life--you're always happy to see your kid succeed--so we're overjoyed. The only word I can say is overjoyed."

The 3-year starter and 5th year senior has been a starter since Day one of the Brian Kelly era. He suffered a season ending injury last year against Wake Forest so Saturday's game brings things full circle.

We'll have an in-depth story on Braxston and his parents Saturday on Countdown to Kickoff at 2:30 on WNDU-TV.
