A flame that has burned for over two thousand years made its way to South Bend Friday. It is known as the Peace Light and was on display Friday at the LaSalle Council.
It began at the Church of the Navity in Bethlehem and was then spread around Europe by a Boy Scout Troop in Austria.
Boy Scouts from across the world have worked to spread the flame from troop to troop in order to spread its message of peace and goodwill around the globe.
“The light itself has been for well over a thousand years has been continuously lit at the Church of the Nativity,” says David Sykes the Assistant Scout Executive. “Each year the scouts there in Austria have taken it as a Goodwill project from the Church of the Nativity with the help of Austrian Airlines, taken it to Austria then spread it throughout Europe. This time of year it is as a gesture of peace and goodwill.”
The light will be available to see through next week for anyone wishing to light one of their own candles with the flame.
