A man accused in a deadly hit and run appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Jeremy Bontrager, 24, appeared before Judge Frese for his initial hearing.

He has already pleaded not guilty and could face up to eight years in prison for leaving the scene of an accident that killed Ronald Rodgers, 56.

His trial was set for May 12 with a record date of April 29.

Bontrager originally told police he heard a loud bang, and thought he may have hit something.

He claims he did not see anything when he turned around to look in the street.

Rodgers was walking on SR 933 in Roseland, in the right hand lane. The nearby sidewalk was covered in snow.
