SOUTH BEND, Ind -- A man accused in a deadly hit-and-run had his trial delayed Wednesday.

Jeremy Bontrager pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident that killed 56-year-old Ronald Rodgers.

He could face up to eight years in prison.

Bontrager was a volunteer paramedic, and claims he checked behind him, when he thought he'd hit something while driving on 933 in Roseland.

But he says he didn't see anything, so he left.

Bontrager was scheduled to go to trial May 12.

But that's now been moved to July 28.
