UPDATE: Elkhart soldier's remains back in Michiana

The body of an Elkhart soldier killed in Afghanistan has arrived in South Bend Friday.

Staff Sgt. Jesse Williams, 30, was killed --along with five other service members-- in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Dec. 16.

Williams' body arrived around 9 a.m. at South Bend Regional Airport on Friday and is en route to Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, visitation for Williams is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 2 at Granger Community Church in Mishawaka. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Jan. 3 at Granger Community Church. His body will be buried at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart.

Williams was a 2003 graduate of Elkhart Central High School.
