More classes could be added into the schedules of South Bend high school students without expanding the school day’s duration itself.
The school board is scheduled to debate switching from a six period day to a seven period day at Adams, Clay, New Tech and Riley high schools at a meeting Tuesday night.
Supporters of the measure say it will allow students who are struggling to retake classes as well as allow others to explore more electives.
But those opposed to the change say adding more classes would shorten class time and eliminate students’ ability to really absorb the material.
