If the holidays are pulling you in every direction, the South Bend Medical Foundation would like to wrap your presents while you donate blood.
The Foundation will have extended hours during three Saturdays this month, offering free gift wrapping at three donor centers.
South Bend Donor Center (530 North Lafayette) will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.
Elkhart Donor Center (Ground Level of Elkhart General Hospital) will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15.
Mishawaka Donor Center (118 West Edison) will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22.
“If you don’t like wrapping presents and want to help others this holiday season, come to the South Bend Medical Foundation Blood Donor Center," public relations director Colleen Hahn said. “Volunteer blood donors are really needed at this time of year and your presents can be gift-wrapped while you give blood."
Donors will also be eligible to receive a $10 gift card to Meijer, Walmart or Martin’s Super Market.
The blood donation process usually takes about 45 minutes. Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and bring a photo ID. People are encouraged to eat hearty meals and drink plenty of water on the day of their blood donation.
Blood donation appointments are highly recommended and can be made by calling (574) 234-1157 or going to www.GiveBloodNow.com.
