Black Friday tradition fades this year

Every year stores like Meijer are open on Thanksgiving Day.

It's been a tradition to stay open 364 days a year.

This year Meijer isn’t alone.

Many stores are following in Meijer's footsteps in this tough economic climate and opening Thursday night.

Meijer says they see strong grocery sales Thursday morning.

“There are some people that come in that don't have any place to go. They don’t have any family, they just want to do their shopping.” says Meijer store manager, Rick Zeeff.

Some families say they don't plan on leaving the house on the holiday, no matter how good the deal.
