One year ago, Bishop Rhoades became the head of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese, after Bishop John D’Arcy stepped down.
Rhoades marked the anniversary on Thursday with a mass at South Bend’s St. Joseph’s High School.
Since he took over the diocese, reaching out to the youth has been one of his top priorities. And he says these days, he’s so comfortable in Indiana he thinks of himself as a Hoosier.
“It’s been a great year. I really feel at home in Indiana. I’m surprised at how much I feel at home in just one year,” says Rhoades. “The highlights have definitely been the visits to the parishes, to the schools, other institutions. I love being among the people.”
Over the past year, the Bishop says he has visited more than 50 of the schools and parishes in the diocese.
