Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy is coming home after a bout of cancer treatments.
D'arcy is the former leader of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese.
He was diagnosed with cancer in the brain and lung during an annual physical exam while visiting family in Boston during Christmas.
D’Arcy met with his Fort Wayne doctors on Thursday to discuss his care, says diocesan communications director Sean McBride.
At this point, they still are discussing palliative care that would ease D’Arcy’s symptoms but wouldn’t cure the cancer, says McBride.
The bishop released a statement yesterday thanking everyone for their prayers and support. D'arcy led the local diocese for more than 25 years.
In his statement, D'Arcy said "I wish to thank Bishop Rhoades and all the people of our beloved Diocese for the prayers of so many, which have been poured out on me. They are an enormous consolation. Please continue them."
The 80-year-old stepped down last year.
