South Bend, Ind. 5 o'clock Friday was the final deadline for bidders hoping to develop a 10 acre site on South Bend's Northside Boulevard.
Two of the bidders, Century Builders and the Place Group, raised their bids by about $100,000.
The property is the site of the old Transpo headquarters and sits along the river near Howard Park. Matthews LLC, Place Group and Century Builders were selected as the final bidders.
Initial proposals were due April 11, but Transpo announced on August 1 that developers would be given until Friday to submit revised proposals.
The deadline push coincided with one neighborhood group filing a complaint that Transpo had violated Indiana’s open door law in its discussions over the site.
Transpo says the complaint filing and the deadline extension were purely coincidently.
“The Transpo Board of Directors is very adamant about continuing to move forward as well as a process that has drug out far enough because of outside forces, circumstances and we want to move forward we have a transit agency to run and our main goal is to provide good quality transit service to our community and by doing that we need to get rid of this property as soon as possible,” said Transpo general Manager David Cangany.
The Transpo Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday to select a final developer for the Northside Boulevard property.
