Elkhart County, Ind. A bicyclist was taken to a hospital for serious injuries, after being hit by a pickup truck Monday morning.

It happened around 4:15 a.m. in the 59000 block of County Road 35, south of County Road 20 in Elkhart County.

Police say both the pickup driver and the bicyclist were heading north. The crash happened at the crest of a hill, and police say it's possible the driver didn't see the bicyclist.

The bicyclist, 34-year-old Dennis Bontrager of Middlebury, was taken to the hospital for a broken nose, broken cheek bone and small brain bleed, according to officials.

The truck driver was not injured.

C.R. 35 was closed in the area while crews investigated the crash. A medical helicopter was initially dispatched to the scene, but then called off.
