On Tuesday, student athletes at Bethel College are inviting the public to join them in a fundraising effort for the victims of the Boston Marathon tragedy.
Two student athletes, Betty Graber (2015) and Marissa Watts (2015) spearheaded the effort after seeing the tragedy unfold on television. As runners, both girls felt a personal connection with those participating in the marathon. Their coach, Tony Natali, helped them coordinate the fundraiser, but he says it has been the track team conducting all the legwork. Coach Natali says seeing the comittment from his team makes him very proud.
Although all proceeds will go to benefit the victims in Boston, student organizers say the effort is about bringing together the community in a time of need. The girls hope the community will join with students to let Boston know they are not alone.
The walk starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the outdoor track on the Bethel College Campus. People are invited to take part at any time from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and then again at 8 a.m. until noon on Wednesday. They are asking for $10 community donations.
