Berrien Center MI A shuttered Berrien County specialty hospital will become a rehab center for people with addictions.

Earlier this month, Lakeland Healthcare announced that the large facility in Berrien Center would be closing June 1.

Officials said investing in costly repairs and remodeling wasn't fiscally responsible, because fewer people needed the hospital's services.

Now, instead of closing the facility completely, Lakeland says they're partnering with Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Center, based in Richmond, Michigan.

They hope to have detoxification and short-term residential treatment available by this summer.

According to our reporting partners at the Herald-Palladium, it will be the only residential rehab center in Berrien County.
