The suspect in a double shooting case in Benton Harbor has turned himself in.
A warrant was issued for Elliot Coates at the end of July after an investigation into the incidents.
On July 31st, Benton Harbor Public Safety Officers responded to a shooting in Broadway Park. On scene, officers found one male shot in the stomach and another male shot in the arm at another address away from the park. He was found on Lavette Street.
Police could not loate Coates after the incident. But tips lead officers to Battle Creek Michigan, Kalamazoo Michigan, Grand Rapids Michigan and Milwaukee Wisconsin.
Benton Harbor Public Safety Department enlisted the help of the Grand Rapids F.B.I Violent Crimes task force, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Battle Creek Police Department and the Milwaukee Wisconsin Police Department.
After all the agencies made several contacts with Coates’s family in all of these cities Elliott Coates walked to the Benton Harbor Public Safety Department on August 19th, around 10 and turned himself in to Detectives.
Elliott Coates is charged with three counts of Attempted Murder and two firearms charges. Coates is lodged in the Berrien County Jail on his charges and is awaiting arraignment.
