BENTON HARBOR Three of the six high school teachers who received pink slips earlier this month have now officially been laid off. The school board voted at their meeting this week.
According to The Herald Palladium, the other three are still off work without pay, but they have not been laid off yet. The layoffs are the result of budget cuts, but the board is still looking for ways to keep those teachers on.
To raise money, the board also voted to sell three district buildings. Calvin Britain Elementary School, Fair Plain Northeast Elementary School, and a building in the 400 block of Donald Adkins drive were sold for $100,000 each to Harbor Hillcrest Homes. That is the same company that developed the former Sterne Brunson Elementary School into apartments a few years ago.
