A Berrien County father and his young daughter are recovering Saturday night after their car was hit by an Amtrak train.
The accident happened on Kerlikowske Road in Coloma Charter Township around 9:40 Saturday morning.
According to our sister station, WOOD-TV, in Grand Rapids, the car drove through the railroad intersection right when a train started to cross. The intersection has flashing lights, but no cross bar.
The driver, Anthony Bearty, 27, and his four-year-old daughter, Mikayla Bearty, were both flown to a Kalamazoo hospital. Their conditions have not yet been released.
The train was traveling from Grand Rapids to Chicago when the collision occurred. None of the roughly 140 passengers on board the train were hurt.
Michigan state police are continuing to investigate.
