Harbor Town is a brand new subdivision in Benton Harbor, offering home buyers affordable, energy-efficient houses.
The subdivision is located on Market Street in downtown Benton Harbor, and was created as part of a federal grant, designed to stabilize communities affected by foreclosure and abandonment.
Homes will range in price from $125,000-$140,000 and sold to qualified buyers of various income levels. So far, two of the 12-home subdivision are complete.
Several groups made the project happen, including the city of Benton Harbor and Cornerstone Alliance, a non-profit economic development organization, and two local, Michigan contractors. A spokesperson for Cornerstone says this project is focused on job creation, increasing the local tax base and boosting consumer spending within Southwest Michigan.
Area residents and people interested in the project will be able to see two of the finished homes on Saturday, December 8, from 2-6pm. The homes are located on Market street between 12th and 8th Streets.
