Benton Harbor Volunteers are gearing up to make the city of Benton Harbor shine Monday.
Only, instead of just preparing for the Blossomtime Parade, the effort has snowballed to include hundreds of volunteers city-wide.
It all started with a handful of employees at Chemical Bank, who wanted to use their Columbus Day holiday off to spruce up downtown.
But commissioners expanded the idea at a recent meeting, saying the city should be kept attractive at all times.
According to our reporting partners at the Herald-Palladium, more than 200 volunteers are signed up so far. And they're not just Benton Harbor residents. Folks from nearby communities are also coming to lend a hand.
