Benton Harbor, Mich. Class may not be back in session for another two weeks, but Benton Harbor students are already gearing up for another successful year.
Benton Harbor Area Schools hosted its annual Back-to-School Extravaganza Thursday afternoon.
The celebration started off at Jean Klock Park, but thanks to Mother Nature, the free event was forced to move indoors.
Hundreds of kids and their families packed into Benton Harbor High School, enjoying food and entertainment, and even receiving backpacks full of supplies.
Two rappers took the stage, sending a positive, anti-bullying message to area students, and providing words of encouragement as they get ready to hit the books once again.
“It's very vital for them to have all of their materials and also for their parents to push and encourage them about the upcoming school year,” says Charles Patterson a family coach for the Benton Harbor Area Schools. “It's a three-way system - it's the student, it's the school and it's the parents.”
“Kids, they strive to impress and they just love having their parents in, and parents motivate them during their educational journey,” says Naquasha King a family coach for the Benton Harbor Area Schools.
The first day of school for Benton Harbor students is Tuesday, September 3.
