Benefit on Saturday to help man who had tree limb fall on him

A benefit is planned for a New Paris man, paralyzed after a tree limb fell on him.

Richard Borkholder Jr. was helping a friend cut firewood back in January when the limb fell. He had to be air-lifted to South Bend for an intense surgery.

According to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth, he suffered injuries to his vertebrae, spinal cord and back, broke several ribs, and cracked his sternum.

A pork chop barbecue on Saturday will raise money to help with medical expenses. It will be held by the New Paris Lions Club at the corner of County Road 46 and State Road 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out.
