The world series of baton twirling has taken over South Bend.

Since 1970, nationals for America's Youth on Parade have been held at Notre Dame.

Only the top 5 twirlers from each state travel to Notre Dame to compete for the national championship both individually and in teams.

There are 5 divisions that are age based.

"This is one of my favorite weeks of the whole year. It's my 39th consecutive national, so I've spent a lot of time here at Notre Dame. I love it and I've had students for the last 30 years here, and I have my daughter that started competing about 3 or 4 years ago and it just makes everything better,” Heidi Jacobson from Kansas City said.

On Friday, the top 6 twirlers from each division will compete again. The top 3 will head to the World Championships next year in Switzerland.

You can catch all the twirling for free every day this week from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Joyce Center.
