GOSHEN It's not pleasant to think about, but more than a million gallons of raw sewage were purposely released into the Elkhart River near Goshen.

The Goshen Wastewater Treatment Plant on Tuesday had to release 1.3 million gallons of untreated sewage because of this week's power outages. Bacteria levels returned to normal by Friday.

According to the Elkhart Truth, this is only the second time since 2011 the city has been forced to release untreated sewage.
