SWAT standoff has ended; suspect apprehended

South Bend, Ind.--- A SWAT standoff in the 1500 block of Ford Street has ended and a suspect is in custody.

South Bend Police Chief Ron Teachman said that police were called to the scene around 12:49 p.m. on Sunday afternoon because of a domestic situation.

When police arrived and confronted the individuals involved in the domestic situation an armed male suspect fled.

The suspect then entered a house on Walnut St.

While police were working on getting a search warrant to enter the house on Walnut St. the suspect then fled again.

Police dogs were mobilized and a search for the suspect began.

A witness then notified police that the suspect may have entered the abandoned house where a three hour standoff then occurred.

Police tried multiple tactics to get the suspect out of the house with no positive response.

Police then shot some sort of smoke or gas into the house, and SWAT began to slowly maneuver towards the house.

SWAT then entered the house and apprehended the suspect.

The suspect was treated for minor scratches at the scene of the incident.

No word yet on what type of charges the suspect now faces.
