Lake Michigan College locked down all of its campuses due to a security concern on Friday, but Michigan State Police are now saying that there was no credible threat.

Police have had contact with the suspect, and determined that no credible threat was made. There have also been no arrests made.

The school released a statement earlier in the day saying:

"All Lake Michigan College campuses are closed, Friday, December 6, 2013, for the remainder of the day due to a security concern. This includes all scheduled campus events."

A college spokesperson tells NewsCenter 16 it was notified by a "third party" about a possible threat to campus.

Around noon nearly five thousand students, faculty and staff were notified that Lake Michigan College would be closed for the rest of the day.

The notification was made through an email or text alert.

Police say a maintenance worker was fired two days ago.

He made vague threats about hurting the campus student body and staff to his union representative who passed it on to the campus administrator.

Once state police talked with the maintenance man, it turned out the threat was a misunderstanding.

The threat was actually made Thursday but the school didn't close until Friday at noon.

No arrests were made but a restraining order was filed against the former employee.

The campus parking lot in Benton Harbor was empty except for a handful of campus security cars that were patrolling.

All activities will resume as planned on Saturday.
