If sounds too good to be true it probably be is.
At least that's the advice Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana is giving with at least two scams going around the area.
According to the BBB a number of phone calls are being made from an untraceable business. The business is claiming it will set-up a free home security system, if you simply put a sign advertising their business in your front yard.
The BBB questions what could happen once you give out your personal information to an unknown company or what they will try to sell.
“What could be happening here is one thing, it can be a legitimate company so they can sell you a security system. The other is that it could be a scam, or a scammer that is using a reputable company’s name and they are mocking them,” says Dreama Jensen from the BBB.
There's also a second scam that promises to offer people lower credit card debt.
Jensen says reports from members say phone calls are coming in saying there's a last-time low-interest rate that can be offered on a credit card. It’s really a hook for identity theft.
The calls are coming from telephone number 617-- 371-- 4000.
The caller ID shows "investor." The company listed on the caller ID is based out of Boston but isn’t part of the scam and is just a front.
The BBB says there are companies from other countries calling and leaving messages that you need to watch out for also.
