Austin shaves his 37-year-old mustache after Concord wins boys hoops sectional

The Concord boys basketball team was playing so badly in the first few weeks of practice that coach Steve Austin told his son Brett (a member of the team) that he would shave off his mustache if Concord won the sectional championship.

Brett decided to tweet that information and all the players caught onto it. They brought it up at practice and coach Austin said "sure, I'll do it."

Three weeks ago, the players reminded Coach Austin of that promise. He didn't think they would remember but they did.

On Monday, Austin shaved off his mustache for the first time in 37 years. His wife and kids have never seen him without it.

Austin did the honors himself at practice on Monday. He wasn't going to let any of the players do it.

"There was no way they were touching me," Austin said with a big laugh. "As many times as I yell at these kids you never know they could just 'oops accident coach, sorry.'"

Senior Adam Glanders says while he was banking on coach going through with the promise he was a little surprised he actually did since its been a part of who Coach Austin is ever since college.

Coach Austin says he's going to keep the clean shave for a little bit just to see where it goes.

Concord will face Penn at 1pm Eastern Time Saturday afternoon at Michigan City in the 4A Regional Semis.
