Eight area victims are out thousands of dollars after asking an out-of-state company to modify a home loan to prevent foreclosure.
Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller filed five lawsuits against foreclosure consultants.
The groups are accused of violating Indiana Consumer Protection Laws, and taking almost $22,000 from Hoosiers.
Zoeller held a news conference Wednesday in Downtown South Bend.
Zoeller said Hoosiers should hang-up on unsolicited phone calls, and disregard advertisements that sound too good to be true.
In the meantime, two of those Saint Joseph County fraud victims will receive nearly $5,000 in compensation from Indiana’s Consumer Protection Assistance Fund.
