South Bend, Ind. Family member of shooting victim says he is resting at home and in good condition after officer-involved shooting in the 1100 block of Eddy St., near St. Vincent St, in South Bend.
The victim was shot in the leg and injuries were not considered life threatening.
The initial call to police involved a large fight at the corner of St. Vincent and Eddy Street just before 3 a.m. Four officers were in the area and arrived to break up the fight.
During their efforts to disperse the crowd, gunshots were fired by an unknown person. The officers soon discovered that one person was suffering from a gunshot wound.
As officers tried to identify the location of the gunshot and help the victim, more gunshots were fired toward bystanders.
One of the officers fired back at the suspect.
The suspect then got into a vehicle , believed to be a large tan or light colored SUV, and left the scene.
Metro Homicide was called to the scene because this was an officer-involved shooting.
Investigators are still searching for the suspect, but are still working on a physical description.
Police are asking for the help of anyone who may have witnessed the fight, leading up to the gunfire.
