Dr. Charles Edward Myers was arrested Wednesday for allegedly writing bogus prescriptions in exchange for sex.

With the doctor still in jail, patients are wondering how to gain access to personal records.

As it turns out, the process may be complicated.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office has contacted both the Indiana Attorney General's Office and the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana regarding inquiries they have received from some of Dr. Myers' patients.

Both the AG's Office and the Licensing Board indicated that Dr. Myers is the holder of the medical records; however, patients are entitled to those records.

As Dr. Myers is the holder of the records, he, or his attorney, must be contacted to obtain the records. Dr. Myers remains in custody.

However, his Office Manager, Autumn Myers, is out on bond in a separate but related criminal cause.

The Licensing Board recommends that patients send a letter to Dr. Myers' practice that requests a copy of their medical records.

Though patients are entitled to their medical records, Dr. Myers is able to charge a fee for those records.
