The robbery happened around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found a female desk clerk covered in blood. The clerk told police she was robbed and beaten by an unknown black male.

The man then pushed the clerk into the back room and demanded more money. Police say the suspect hit the clerk numerous times in the face and head area. He forced her to lay on the ground and kicked her in the back. He then tied her hands behind her back with plastic zip ties and fled westbound on foot from the hotel. Police say he took an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say the clerk freed herself from the zip ties and called 911. She was treated by paramedics on scene and taken to a local hospital. Police used a K-9 unit tried tracking the suspect, but were unable to locate him.

Officers are reviewing surveillance video provided by the hotel.

Officials say some details of the case are not adding up, and they're investigating to see whether or not this was a random criminal act.
