SOUTH BEND, Ind. Those talented in the kitchen are vying for the title of “best” chef—but their efforts go to a good cause.

This is the fourth year for the "Greatest Chefs of Michiana" event, a benefit for the Michiana Family YMCA.

Ten teams, ranging from Indulgence Pastry Café to Fiddler's Hearth and Café Navarre, will be competing for the title.

New this year is an eleventh team, which will feature Michiana microbreweries.

Voting starts Friday, and each vote “costs” $34—for a reason.

“It costs $34 to run an average program at the YMCA for a student youth or an adult if a student is going to come in for a swim class it costs right about $34 every year,” said Nancy Sinnott, director of YMCA’s financial development.

Sinnott also helped coordinate “Greatest Chefs.”

The dishes will be unveiled February 1 and will be featured on menus at their respective restaurants.

The “Greatest Chefs of Michiana” tasting event will be held February 22 at the Century Center.
