Appeal failed for man who shot a teenager in a high speed chase

Elkhart County, Ind. An appeal has failed again for an Elkhart County man who shot a 14-year-old during a high speed chase.

Oscar Perez was convicted of murder and attempted murder for the February 2006 shooting death of Rogelio Reyes. The shooting happened during a late night chase on U.S. 33 in Goshen.

Perez challenged the ruling, saying his lawyers failed to say he was acting in self-defense, and didn't challenge the attempted murder charge. The court of appeals Wednesday discarded Perez's challenge.

Perez was also one of 40 people, indicted in federal court in 2012 for operating a meth ring in the Indiana Prison System. That case is not yet resolved.

Prosecutors say Perez will continue serving his 85 year sentence for murder and attempted murder.
