Three children are dead after a fire broke out in their Kalamazoo apartment.
According to WOOD-TV, firefighters found the bodies of 3-year-old twins and a 1 year-old girl inside a unit at the Interfaith Apartments.
The fire started at around 2 p.m. Monday, when the children were reportedly home alone. A fourth child survived the blaze, and officials say criminal charges are possible at this point in time.
Neighbors tried to help when the fire, which destroyed one apartment and heavily damaged a second, broke out.
“We ran over this way towards the house,” said Octavius Walker, “we didn't know where it was coming from and then the kitchen window exploded... and we looked in there and we had seen a fireball. It was like... it was like a movie. I never seen anything like that before."
Out of the 200 units in the apartment complex, the majority were for low-income families.
The fire is currently under investigation.
