Another group of elected officials is speaking out on the South Bend Police Tapes. The added sponsorship is coming from a group entirely outside city limits.
The added sponsorship is coming directly from all nine St. Joseph County Common Council Members who are asking for the situation to be resolved in a timely fashion. They responded in the form of a written letter.
The unanimous approval includes six Democratic and three Republican Members.
The letter reads, "The ongoing controversy involving the police tapes in the Communication Center unfortunately are having a negative impact throughout our community, not just within the City of South Bend."
The letter continues to say, "For the sake of the entire community,it is our hopes that these matters be resolved in a more timely manner, and if necessary, through our local courts."
We're told this is the first time both the South Bend and St. Joseph County Common Councils have signed letters of unanimous support for the same issue.
Again the reasoning being the overall community impact this tape scandal has had on the county's 267,000 residents.
