The Irish football seniors have had a blast in New York City thus far in anticipation of Saturday's Pinstripe Bowl but more than anything these guys have one goal--win the game.
Notre Dame practiced for the final time on Thursday, preparing to face Rutgers Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. They say their whole focus is going out with a victory.
"For sure," Irish captain and senior TJ Jones said with a big laugh on the need to go out with a win. "If we come here and have all this fun and lose--especially in my last game in a Notre Dame uniform--that does us no good."
"That's our main focus," captain and senior Bennett Jackson adds. "That's our main goal and the reason we came down here to come and get the victory. At the end of the day, having fun and all that, that is part of the process but the main thing to do is go out and get that win."
Rutgers is just 6-6 and have had a disappointing season as well. The Scarlet Knights will head to the Big Ten next year so a win over Notre Dame can help provide some nice momentum.
"Whoever you play it doesn't really matter--a win is a win but I know to people around the program a win over Notre Dame, which is a national program and a historic program, is really big for your program going forward especially going to a new conference," Rutgers linebacker Kevin Snyder says."
The Irish and Scarlet Knights will each have a walk thru Friday at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff is Saturday just after noon.
