Angelo Di Carlo reports live from Santa Monica Pier

The Notre Dame football team has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. The Irish squad is just one game away from playing for its first national championship in 24 years.

That game will take place in Los Angeles this Saturday at 8 p.m. EST as Notre Dame squares-off against the University of Southern California.

During NewsCenter 16 at 6 p.m., Angelo Di Carlo reported live from the Santa Monica Pier where he talked about a very grateful Notre Dame team.

“Well it's got to start with my family. For them to be able to just be so supportive of what I do. I'm here so much and I’m thankful for my family. I'm thankful for my coaches and staff. I'm thankful for the players I have here at Notre Dame. It’s just a great opportunity to be around special people, I’m blessed,” Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said.

And Coach Kelly isn’t alone, Angelo also chatted with some key Irish players.

“I'm thankful that my mom and my dad had a handsome son. I'm thankful for everything. I'm happy I’m at this university in a position that I’m in because a lot of people would die to be where I’m at right now. I'm just thankful for all of that,” Irish nose guard Louis Nix remarked.

“I’m thankful for life, to be here at Notre Dame, to have the friends that I do, to have the family that I do and to have the coaches that I do. Everyone that is in my life, I’m thankful for,” Irish safety Zeke Motta said.

“I’m thankful for everything that surrounds me. Notre Dame, my family, my brothers on the team and the opportunity I’ve been given,” Irish center and Penn High School graduate Braxston Cave added.

Angelo Di Carlo also chimed in, “What else can you be more thankful for than being in sunny California covering an 11-0 football team looking to book its ticket to the national championship? After the newscast, I’m going to visit my college roommate’s place for a little Thanksgiving feast. So there’s a lot to be thankful for, to say the least.”

Most of the WNDU news staff concurs with Angelo’s statement. After all, the newsroom has been nice and quiet since Mr. Di Carlo boarded his Southwest Airline flight to the Golden State.

Look for stories on the Irish in every newscast through Saturday, including a special edition of NewsCenter 16’s “Countdown To Kick-Off” with Angelo Di Carlo and Jeff Jeffers live from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. Saturday EST.
