Some celebrated July 4 by heading to the St. Joseph County 4H fair.

Wednesday, fairgoers got a sneak peak into the life of an American farmer with what is called the Farmers’ Mobile Experience."

The traveling 53-foot trailer at the 4H Fairgrounds expands into 1,000 square feet and immerses visitors into the lives of farm families.

Jeff Leiningers' family farms in Michiana and both he and the sponsors of the Farmers’ Mobile Experience say farming has changed from the farms of their grandfathers.

“It's much more technical and advanced than what most people realize and we're talking about global positioning systems variable right technology and computer applications we use in agriculture,” said Leininger, a local host farmer.

“I find that when I am giving tours there is always that one aha moment where people realize that it's a way of life, it's a livelihood, it's our job. And then again it's also fun and also very important,” said Mobile Museum tour guide Samantha cobb

One of those aha facts folks who visited the Farmers’ mobile farm experience learned was that farmers are going to have to grow as much food in the next 50 years as they have in the past ten thousand years if they are going to sustain our planet.
