In the Midwest, residents are used to seeing deer, squirrels and the occasional coyote, but on Saturday, a Michigan family stumbled across a three-to-four foot long alligator.
A man in Mattawan Michigan - about 70 miles northeast of South Bend, Ind. - was mowing his lawn when he saw the reptile trapped in his basement window well.
Buchanan-based A2Z Exotic Animal Rescue helped capture the two-year-old gator, which appeared to be in good health.
The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department believes the alligator was once a family pet in the area and either escaped or was intentionally set free.
Police are now looking for its rightful owner.
