ST. JOSEPH CO., Mich.--- An agreement approved today promises to bring the bike and pedestrian trails of Indiana and Michigan closer together.

The St. Joseph County Commissioners approved a contract for the extension of a trail from Darden Rd. to Auten Rd.

An earlier contract means construction will begin in 2016 on a trail from Cleveland Rd. to Darden Rd.

“It's a trail that they've been looking forward to see come to fruition, hopefully here in the next two to four years we're going to get another two miles of it completed and then we can look to complete it all the way to the state line,” said Jessica Clark, the St. Joseph County Engineer.

Action has yet to be taken on the part of the trail that would run from Auten Rd. to the state line, and connect with a trail recently completed by the State of Michigan that runs all the way up to U.S. 12.
