Act of revenge to blame for June shooting in Elkhart

A shooting last month that sent an Elkhart teen to the hospital, may have been an act of revenge. That's according to our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

Jacques Allen, 18, is facing charges of attempted murder and resisting law enforcement, for his alleged role in the June 6 crime.

The victim, 19-year-old Latyris Mitchell, told police he'd biked to a convenience store in the 200 block of East Indiana Avenue on the city's southeast side, where he saw Allen standing outside with a small group.

That's when Allen allegedly pointed a handgun at Mitchell's abdomen and pulled the trigger.

The victim's story matches up with bystanders' accounts of the incident.

In a probable cause affidavit filed this week in court, a witness claims he heard Allen say quote, "you've been shooting at my homies!" before firing a gun at Mitchell three times.

Allen's initial hearing is set for next Thursday, July 11.
