NewsCenter 16 is counting down to the National Champion game by re-living each game of the 2012 Notre Dame Football Season.
Each sportscast until the New Year, will look back at a game from the season with extended highlights, storylines and postgame reaction.
On Thursday, we recapped Notre Dame’s against-the-odds victory over Michigan State in East Lancing on Sep. 15. The Spartans had won 15 straight games at home and were double-digit favorites to win over the Irish.
The Irish played nearly flawless football against the Spartans, with standout performances by Everett Golson, Dan Fox, Stephon Tuitt and of course, Manti Te’o. Te’o played great football despite a heavy heart with the deaths of his grandmother and girlfriend earlier in the week.
But the Irish pulled off the win, improving Notre Dame’s record to 3-0, and skyrocketing the team nine spots to the number 11 ranking in the Associated Press poll.
