Two semi trucks collide in LaPorte County killing one of the drivers.
The Sheriff's Department says the other people involved, two men and a woman, all in the other semi, are lucky to be standing.
It happened early Monday night on the corner of US 6 and 35.
Several people described the collision as a ‘scene from a scary movie.’
Within seconds, a crash claims one man's life and put fear in three others as they fight for theirs.
Dana Wilhelm says, “They jumped out of the truck and ran across the street because of the flames.”
Wilhelm tells NewsCenter 16 her family recently got a call that her 23 year-old brother was killed in a crash. She thought they were getting another one saying she, her husband, and three kids were killed.
She says, “We were that close and we were turning and he told me to go because I had to get away from it because we thought it was going to come our way.”
The LaPorte County Sheriff's Department says the three other people in the semi carrying festival rides are extremely lucking to be alive.
The man driving the semi carrying coiled steel was not as lucky.
They says he was going east on US 6 and the other truck was going south on 35, ready to turn.
Deputy Sheriff Brian Crail says, “They explained they came up to a stop sign, made a complete stop, looked to both sides, traffic was clear, they proceeded through, and they were struck. That's their statement.”
The Sheriff's Department is not releasing the victim's name right now. They were having a difficult time trying to reach the owner of the steel company he was working for.
The crash is still under investigation.
